As regards draft statement enclosed

with your savingram and question of

publication of Advisory Committee's Report

see my telegram No.258. These questions

have now been discussed with Foreign Office

and onclusion has been reached that it

would be definitely undesirable to publish

report at the present time. Apart from

rejection of Committee's main recommendation,

there are some passages in Report which

might give rise to some very awkward

repercussions if the report were published.

Passages in question are references both

direct and indirect to (a) British prestige

in the Far East (paragraphs 2 and 13),
